Today actitvity was enjoyable and a new experience for us as we get to petrol around the Jurong Point Shopping Mall and giving out pamphlet in full uniform. We are divided into two group and my group is the first group to petrol around with the police officer. At first we felt scared and awkward as this is the first time that we wear NPCC full uniform in public and as we petrol many people were looking at us and we felt uneasy but then the police officer told us that this is how people will watch us when we are in full uniform and all of the police officer also felt uneasy at first but now they are too used at the way people were staring at them.As we were petroling the police officer told us all the spotted places in Jurong Point that have a cases previously such as shoptheft. The police officer also told us that there are 30 over staircase/escalator and 500 over shops in both Jurong Point Shopping Mall. After we have finished our round of petrolling, our group then will be giving out pamphlets on phone scam.It is difficult to give out the pamphlets and explain to them about the crime as many of them are trying to avoid us as they thought that we are police officer but then we still persevere and continue our duty and it goes smoothly as we were standing at different places that have more people an throughout giving out the pamphlets we still smiling although some of the people do not want the pamphlets and listening to our explaination.Still I am happy as I do do rounds of giving out the pamphlets and my group have finished giving out the pamphlets. At the end of the day the police officer told us about the real life being a police officer.I can say that being a police officer is not an easy job as there are many responsibility that they need to handle and they need to be flexible and also we got to know that there are many police department in Singapore.I enjoy today activity as it gain my experience and are proud to wear the full uniform with pioneer logo as when people by pass us,they will look at our logo and said pioneer NPCC.I hope that the rest of the cadets will be participating such activity in future as it will link us to the outside world and gain experience too.I would to say thank you to all teacher officer especially Ms Yuen,Mr Oon and Mrs Seah that were watching over us and also by giving us this fruitful experience that also taught us to be confident and communicate with people about the awareness of crimes in Singapore.Last but not least thanks to both friendly police officers that guide us throughout the day and giving us advises so as to avoid being a victim of the criminal.

Today, the Secondary 4 and 5 NCOs had our Police Youth Ambassador programme at JP2 to raise awareness on crime prevention. We were assigned to distribute fliers and patrol around Jurong Point Shopping Centre.

At first, we were quite nervous to wear the uniform in public since we're not used of being stare at and being in the public's eye. But after a while, we began to get used to the stares and the remarks made by some of the public like "POLICE!" , "NPCC!" and "PSS." In fact, we feel very proud to wear our NPCC uniform with pride, knowing that we are here for a good purpose. We distinguish ourselves into 2 groups. Each group were assigned to 2 different task.

As my group were patrolling around Jurong Point, Sir Philips (the Police Officer who was attached to our group) told us the stores that has a lot of crime cases in Jurong Point were mostly Bookstores, Arcades and Food Court. These were among the 'hot spots' for theft to happen since victims often left things unattended and thus, creating opportunities for culprits to commit theft. He also told us the crime cases that had happen and ways to prevent it from happening. It takes about 1/2 hour to complete the patrol but for the police officers, it may sometimes take about 4-6 hours for them to patrol the entire building and stores.

My group was then told to distribute the rest of the fliers after Sir Beng Hui demonstrates to us on how to talk and approach to strangers. Sadly, only a few were willing to listen to what we had to say about the flier which is, Cheat Scam. Most of whom were willing to listen were around their mid 30s - 50s. However, we were not discourage as our main purpose is to raise awareness and not to force the people to listen. I'm glad that those who were willing to listen were interested and had asked several questions regarding about the flier. Both officers had shared their experiences and advise us to be wary of such cases such as, bicycle theft.

Some may think that being a Police Officer is cool but yet, a high price comes within it,as we were told. It is a very demanding job that requires full commitment since Police Officers have to keep the country safe and secure, maintain law and order, be ready to deal with any threats to the safety and security of Singapore, prevent crime from happening and etc. Besides that, they had to also perform and maintain the highest level of morale and discipline. To sum it all, it requires a lot of hard work. We were also told that even though Singapore has low crimes, it doesn't mean that there is NO crime.

I had learn a lot, had a glorious time and is fortunate to experience this PYA programme with my squad mates. I would like to thank the two Police Officers, Sir Philips and Sir Beng Hui for assisting us and also to Ms Yuen, Mr Oon and Mrs Seah for coming down and for giving us this opportunity. I hope that our juniors will also be given the same opportunity and be exposed to this type of experience. (:
